Ministry of Transport and Communications: EU Council seals cheaper mobile charges

The Council of the European Union has approved regulations on the reduction of mobile roaming charges within the EU. The reduced roaming charges will come into effect on 1 July.

The cap for phone calls made is 36 cents per minute whereas the cap for phone calls received 10 cents per minute. The charge for SMS texts is capped at 11 cents whereas the cap for data is 86 cents per megabyte. The prices include value added tax.

The price caps will continue to drop gradually by 2014.
