Safer Internet Day Week culminates with Safer Internet Day on 10 February

The Safer Internet Day Week culminates with the national Safer Internet Day on 10 February 2009. One of the main themes of the Safer Internet Week is the media education of children and the young from the parents' viewpoint in particular. Many parents feel insecure about their children's use of the media and the internet, in particular.

The insecurity results from the difference between the children's and parents' habits of using the electronic media. While parents experience the internet as a virtual world, separate from the daily life, children see the internet as a daily forum where they spend time with old and new friends. In 2009, the objective of the national Safer Internet Day is actually to encourage parents to become interested in the electronic media services used by children and the young. More on the subject at www.tietoturvakoulu.fi.

Do you know the whereabouts of your company's data?

The main themes of the Safer Internet Week also include mobile work in small and medium-sized companies. When work is done outside the office, it is important to ensure that the telecoms connections, in particular, are protected and third parties do not have access to confidential information. It must also be taken into consideration that the equipment may break down. However, the human being is still the greatest risk to information security.

The handling of the information security theme will continue even after the Safer Internet Week from March to May with a seminar tour on information security in mobile work. The seminars will be held at local chambers of commerce in 22 regions in various part of Finland. Free concert for the young on the Safer Internet Day

A free rock concert for 13 to 17-year-olds will be held at Kulttuuriareena Gloria on the Safer Internet Day on 10 February. The performers are Happoradio, Phoenix Effect and Pin Ion.

The Safer Internet Day is an annual campaign, which aims at informing the citizens of how to use the internet and other electronic media in the safest and smartest possible way. The campaign uses the means of communications and social advertising for this purpose. Thirty-six companies, organisations and authorities participate in the Safer Internet Day.
