FICORA granted 200,000th fi-domain name
The number of valid fi-domain names granted by FICORA exceeded 200,000. The authority granted the 200,000th domain name on 2 February 2009 to a Lappish company Tmi Maari that registered a domain name called maari.fi.
There has been a rapid increase in the number of Finnish domain names during the past few years. In 2008, 38,000 new fi-domain names were granted. It is likely that the demand for fi-domain names will remain strong in the future, too. Since the beginning of 2009, it has been possible to apply for fi-domain names for one year at a time instead of the former three years. It is believed that this alternative will make it easier for private persons, in particular, to register a Finnish fi-domain name under their name.
