Kirsi Karlamaa appointed Director of Radio Frequencies
Kirsi Karlamaa, 41, has been appointed Director of FICORA's Radio Frequencies profit area as of 1 September 2009.
Kirsi Karlamaa has a Master of Science degree in Engineering and she has earlier been Head of FICORA's Radio Network Unit.
The responsibilities of the Radio Frequencies profit area consist of general planning of the use of radio frequencies at national and international level. It plans the use of frequencies for radio networks and equipment, grants radio transmitter licences, and issues regulations on the use of frequencies and radio equipment. The profit area grants almost 15 000 radio licences annually. For the time being, more than 56 000 radio licenses are in force. The frequency database register contains over one million assignments.
The profit area also detects radio interferences, monitors placing of the radio equipment on the market and carries out market surveillance. In addition, the profit area organises examinations for radio transmitter users and grants certificates, and makes assessments of the compliance with the requirements of radio equipment.
