New 12-month validity period for fi-domain names
FICORA will improve its fi-domain name service by introducing a 12-month validity period for domain names as of the beginning of next year. After the change will have entered into force on 5 January 2009, it will be possible to apply for, renew or transfer a fi-domain name to another holder either for one or three years.
As of 5 January 2009, the new price for a registration, transfer or renewal of a fi-domain name for 12 months is 15 euros. A 36-month validity period will cost 41 euros instead of the former 43 euros. In late December 2008, the Ministry of Transport and Communications is likely to ratify the amendment to the Decree on Criteria for Charges Payable to the State proposed by FICORA.
There has been strong growth in the number of fi-domain name registrations in 2008. Due to the cost-correlation of the fi-domain name service, it is possible to reduce the domain name fee.
