24.07.2008 Watch out for scam e-mails
CERT-FI, FICORA's team focusing on information security incidents and their prevention, has been informed of cases where e-mail usernames and passwords of computer users have ended up into possession of third parties. It is part of good information security practice that internet service providers or customer services do not ask the passwords of users by e-mail or on the phone. However, some internet services are implemented so that their users' passwords and usernames for the service are routinely inquired by e-mail or on the phone. Users are advised to act reserved as they encounter requests such as these and to ensure the authenticity of the inquiries from the services they use. Banks never ask their customers for confidential information such as online banking usernames or passwords by e-mail.
