Finland's .fi domain is safe

According to a report by the information security company McAfee, the Finnish .fi is the safest country domain in the world. Of all websites ending in the .fi domain, only 0.05% posed a security threat. The safety has improved compared to last year; in 2007, the corresponding figure was 0.10%.

McAfee analysed nearly 10 million websites in 265 countries. Websites were classified as risky if they were associated with spreading adware, spyware, viruses or spam. Other risks included disturbing pop-ups, browser malfunctions and links to other risky sites.

Finnish websites ending in .fi are thus safe to visit. However, McAfee experts emphasise that the virtual world is constantly changing. Despite the good results, risks should be kept in mind. Among the generic domains, .info was the riskiest while .gov remained the safest. The .com domain was the ninth riskiest overall.
