25.08.2009 Thousands of fi-domain names to expire in August-SeptemberApproximately 52,000 fi-domain names will expire on 31 August and 1 September 2009. The domain names about to expire now have been initially applied for on 1 September 2003 or earlier. So far, 62 per cent of the fi-domain names about to expire now have been renewed, which means that it is possible that nearly 20,000 domain names will expire at the end of this month and beginning of next. Unless a domain name is renewed within the set time limit, the internet address of a website will no longer respond and e-mail will not be delivered. According to current legislation, domain names are valid for either 12 or 36 months. The right of use of a domain name expires unless the domain name is renewed after the end of the validity period. Domain names are available for other applicants after the waiting period has passed. A fi-domain name can be renewed, at the earliest, six months before they expire. A domain name can be renewed by paying a renewal fee via FICORA's domain name service at https://domain.ficora.fi/fidomain/aca.aspx. User names or passwords are not needed for the renewal. Users may renew their domain names by themselves or request that their internet service provider renews it. The renewal fee of a fi-domain name is 15 euros for 12 months or 41 euros for 36 months. FICORA will send domain name holders a reminder letter no later than 2 months before the last valid date of the domain name. In addition, domain name holders are sent two e-mail messages prior to the expiration of the domain name. Further information:
