Less than 30 per cent of broadband subscriptions had a speed of at least 2 Mbit/s. The volume of mobile phone calls rose by 12 per cent in comparison with the same period last year (January-March 2006). Likewise, text messaging volumes (SMS) grew by 8 per cent and multimedia messaging (MMS) grew by nearly 40 per cent. According to market data collected by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA), 75,000 3G mobile phones were sold with a subscription in January-March. The 3G tie-in subscriptions sold over the first quarter of the year accounted for about 35 per cent of all mobile subscriptions sold over that period. By the end of March, a total of 350,000 mobile broadband subscriptions and fixed-price data packages were in use. The recent statistics are incorporated into the FICORA market review of the first quarter in 2007. The quarterly released review has basic information on the Finnish communications markets, such as broadband subscription volumes, the number of fixed-network and mobile network subscriptions and the development of call volumes. The review also publishes the market shares of telecom services per operator. By the end of March, TeliaSonera had 42 per cent of the mobile customers. Elisa's market share in the mobile market was ca. 37 per cent and DNA Finland's ca. 19 per cent. In the broadband market, Elisa's market share was ca. 35 per cent, TeliaSonera's ca. 27 per cent, the new DNA Group's 12 per cent and Finnet Group's ca. 14 per cent. The FICORA market review 1/2007 is now available on FICORA's website in Finnish, but can later be found in English, too.
