28.06.2006 Renewal of fi-domain names - tens of thousands of domain names will expire during the summer and next autumnThe Domain Name Act which took effect on 1 September 2003 prescribes all fi-domain names to be valid for a fixed period. The validity for three years will expire, if the domain name is not renewed before the expiry date. The domain name will be free for other applicants after three months from the expiry. The first lot of domain names to be renewed consists of some 41 000 names which have been applied for prior to 1 September 2003. These names shall be renewed by 31 August 2006. The validity of fi-domain names which have been applied for after the entry into force of the Act will expire after three years from their granting, so that the names granted for instance on 1 September 2003 shall be renewed on 1 September 2006 at the latest. A fi-domain name cannot be renewed earlier than three months before the expiry date. The renewal is made by paying a renewal fee at FICORA's Domain Name Service at the address https://domain.ficora.fi/fiDomain/aca.aspx. No user name or password is needed for the renewal. The renewal can be made by the holder of the domain name or through the relevant internet service provider. The fee charged for the renewal of a fi-domain name is 52 euro, and the validity of the domain name is thus prolonged for another three years from the last date of validity. FICORA reminds the holders of fi-domain names of the renewal by a letter at least two months prior to the last day of validity. In addition, two reminders will be sent by e-mail before the expiry date. Further information:
