Protection against malware
Protection against viruses, Trojan horses and worms often is a challenging task to both the users and administrators of information systems. As a main rule, it may be said that in protection against malware, the general situation of malware and alerts given should be monitored and when the situation so requires, you must react rapidly. The following list serves as an example to help the preparation for and protection against malware:
- Install regularly current updates in both the operating system and application software in you information system.
- Install a virus protection programme in your information system and update it regularly.
- Make use of the firewall feature in your operating system or install a firewall programme, which makes the function of malicious software difficult in your information system.
- Do not install or use unknown or suspicious files or software in your information system.
- Do not open suspicious email messages, but delete them unread. Make sure of the security of attachments to email messages.
- Do not keep a diskette in the diskette drive when starting the computer, unless you are sure that it does not contain malicious software.
- Make regularly a backup copy of your information system.
