Radio frequencies
The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) oversees the use of radio frequencies in Finland. The objective is to offer to all users radio frequencies that are as free from interference as possible. Radio spectrum management aims at ensuring that technically and economically feasible radio frequencies can be assigned future radio systems as well. This must not, however, restrict the use of radio frequencies for present radio systems.
The usage of frequencies for various services is clarified in the Appendix of the Radio Frequency Regulation. It is shown also in the picture here [PDF, 70 KB]. FICORA has published a report, estimating the Future demand for radio frequencies [PDF, 49 KB].
The most important tool when guiding the use of frequencies is the licence that entitles the holder to possess and use a radio transmitter. Every piece of radio equipment that is not separately exempted from licensing needs a licence granted by the FICORA. Receivers do not need a licence.
