Broadcasting
Television or radio broadcasting can be operated either under a licence or subject to notification. A licence granted by the Government is needed for television or radio broadcasting operations in a terrestrial mass communications network. Information on the licences granted by the Government is available at the website of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Licences for short-term television and radio broadcasting are granted by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA). As of 1 January 2007 FICORA also grants licences for television and radio broadcasting in a (DVB-H) mobile TV network .
Regarding other kind of TV and radio broadcasting, a notification shall be submitted to FICORA. The operations of the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE are regulated by law.
FICORA keeps a register of television broadcasters who have made a notification. At present their number is about 20. A list of licensed local radios is also available at FICORA' website.
In addition to use a radiotransmitter in Finland a technical radiolicence based on the Radio Act is required.
