Maritime VHF communications

The radio operator of a vessel equipped with maritime VHF radio shall be the holder of a Short Range Certificate (SRC). The SRC may be obtained by successfully passing an examination organised by FICORA.

SRC certificates issued in accordance with CEPT/ERC Decision CEPT/ERC/DEC/(99)01 are recognised by FICORA.

Holders of old "VHF-only" maritime radio certificates issued by the administration of an EU country may continue using maritime VHF radiotelephones on pleasure yachts.

SRC examination may also be taken in English, but FICORA cannot provide learning material in English. The learning material for SRC is available in Finnish and Swedish only.
