Two examples of the use of radio microphones
Example 1:
Sulkava is planning to organise a cultural event for which a great number of radio microphone frequencies is required. They have no microphone equipment that can be tuned to the frequency band 600–700 MHz.
According to channel maps (in Finnish) the frequency bands 606–614 MHz (television channel 38), 646–662 MHz (television channels 43 and 44) and 678–694 MHz (television channels 47 and 48) are reserved for national television broadcasting in Sulkava, and thus cannot be used for radio microphones at the event.
In the list of TV transmitters (in Finnish) of licences granted there are transmitters on channels 46 and 49 in Sulkava, using the frequency bands 670–678 MHz and 694–702 MHz, which cannot be used for radio microphones at the event, either.
Frequencies in the bands 600–606 MHz (part of television channel 37), 614–646 MHz (television channels 39–42) and 662–678 MHz (television channels 45–46), can be reserved for radio microphones at the cultural event, since these frequencies are not used for television broadcasting in the Sulkava area.
Example 2:
A band is touring Finland (Helsinki, Hämeenlinna, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Oulu) and needs five microphone/in-ear monitor frequencies in their devices' tuning range of 470–510 MHz (television channels 21–25) to ensure the devices need not to be tuned again mid-tour.
Yle's reporter connections (band width 200 kHz) operate on television channel 21 (470–478 MHz) in the following frequencies: 470.500 MHz; 473.250 MHz; 474.250 MHz; 474.750 MHz; 476.500 MHz and 477.250 MHz. These frequencies may not be used for other radio microphone systems. The rest of channel 21's frequencies are available to radio microphones throughout Finland, since these frequencies are not used for television broadcasting.
In addition to television broadcasting, there are reporter connections of broadcasting companies operating in the following frequencies of television channel 23 (486–494 MHz, band width 200 kHz): 486.500 MHz; 489.250 MHz; 490.250 MHz; 490.750 MHz; 492.500 MHz and 493.250 MHz. These frequencies may not be used for other radio microphone systems. Other frequencies of channel 23 may be used for radio microphone systems in those geographical areas where the channel is not allocated to television broadcasting.
The band can use the following frequencies on television channel 21, e.g. 471.000; 472.000; 472.500; 476.000 and 477.750 MHz throughout Finland. The band cannot use frequencies on television channels 22, 23, 24 and 25, since, according to the channel maps alone, none of these channels are free from television broadcasting in all the cities on the tour.
