The name of the Telecommunications Administration Centre was changed to the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) on September 1, 2001.

At the same time, FICORA's new look was introduced. The corporate symbol aims to embody expertise, dynamics, global influence and promotion of information society development. By using the trilingual form we want to highlight the internationality of our operation.
FICORA is a general administrative authority for issues concerning electronic communications and information society services. Our mission is to promote development of the information society in Finland. FICORA is an agency in the same administrative sector as the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The specific duty of the Authority is to safeguard the functionality and efficiency of the communications markets in order to ensure that consumers have access to competitive and technically advanced communications services that are both of good quality and affordable.

FICORA has duties concerning supervision of telecommunications, information security, postal operations and the contents of the electronic media. It controls the use of radio frequencies in Finland and is responsible for the collection of television fees.
